Komono Town (Komono-cho) in Mie is rich in nature, including the Gozaisho Ropeway with its expansive views of the Suzuka Mountains and the Yunoyama hot springs. Recently, Komono Town has been attracting a great deal of attention as a popular area among fashionable people. The attraction of Komono Town is its easy accessibility. It only takes less than an hour from Nagoya by car, making it a popular destination for a day trip.
This time, we will introduce recommended spots such as cafes and lifestyle shops that will make you want to go to Komono Town right now. Please use this as a reference for your weekend outings!
What kind of town is Komono Town?
Komono Town in Mie Prefecture is a town with a population of 40,000 in the northern part of Mie Prefecture. Adjacent to Yokkaichi, the largest city in the prefecture, it is about 10km from the city and about 40km from downtown Nagoya.
Speaking of Komono Town, isn't there only "Yunoyama Onsen" and "Mt. Gozaisho"? I think this is what many people think, but it's not like that. In addition to historical and cultural tourist spots, there are also fashionable cafes, select shops, and other spots that will make you want to visit.
Let's go now!
Banko ware with 300 years of history on the dining table "Kamoshika Douguten"
If you go to Komono Town, you should definitely visit the brand "Kamoshika Douguten (Kamoshika Tool Shop)", which was launched in 2014 by Yamaguchi Pottery, a kiln of Banko ware.
A renovated warehouse appears in the green rice field. "Suzuka Seven Mountains" spreads out in front of you, and the largest mountain among them, Mt. Gozaisho, stands firmly.
Banko ware is a representative local industry of Mie Prefecture, and was designated as a national traditional craft in 1979. The tableware and teapots made by the potteries concentrated in Yokkaichi City and Komono Town are popular not only in Japan but also overseas, and the domestic market share of clay pots is over 80%.
The brand concept of Kamoshika Douguten is “Delivering happiness through the dining table”. Even though the products are simple, they are full of ideas that make everyday dining fun.
The store not only sells products from Kamoshika Douguten, but also from "4th market", which is made up of four Banko ware potteries in Komono Town and Yokkaichi City, as well as select products, so be sure to check them all out.

A cafe that makes you forget the hustle and bustle of the city
"CAFE SNUG"
“CAFE SNUG” is a cafe unique to Komono Town, which is rich in nature. From Kintetsu Yunoyama Line "Obaneen" station, if you walk along the tracks towards the mountain for about 5 minutes, you will see the shop beyond the forest.
When you open the door, you will find yourself in a unique space that makes you feel as if you have visited a distant foreign land, yet somehow nostalgic. The owner likes the movie director Wes Anderson, so you can feel the atmosphere of Wes Anderson's world.
In addition to morning breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Snug also offers a wide range of customer requests, such as selling baked sweets and jams, take-out food, and custom-made icing cookies and cakes.
No matter what time you visit, you'll be happy to be able to come across a special menu.
The garden is also very beautiful, so please spend a wonderful time while feeling the seasons.

Both children and adults can enjoy!
Outdoor Park "Forest Adventure Yunoyama"
I want to move my body! For those who are interested, we recommend Forest Adventure Yunoyama, an outdoor park that coexists with nature.
The "Zip Slide" is over 100m long and the "Tarzan Swing" where you jump from a height of about 10m awaits you. An outdoor park where you can enjoy thrills, exhilaration, and a sense of accomplishment in the extraordinary space of a forest.
Forest Adventure is a “nature symbiotic outdoor park” originating in France. Forest Adventure, developed by French company Altus, was established in 1997 as a facility for corporate training.
The fun of the park has spread outside the park and is now open to the public, and there are now more than 250 facilities in Europe and other parts of the world. In Japan, the first park opened in August 2006 in a forest 1,100 meters above sea level at the foot of Mt. Fuji.
You can hold hands like this and slide together. Yunoyama Forest Adventure is the only place where you can slide while holding hands. It's a miracle zip slide made possible by the miraculous location of the trees!
By the way, you are allowed to bring cameras and smartphones into the park as long as you do so at your own risk, and enjoy taking photos and videos. (Clothing with a pouch is recommended due to the possibility of falling)
If you want to enjoy the thrill and exhilaration in the forest, please go to "Forest Adventure Yunoyama". It is a spot where both children and adults can move their bodies to the fullest.
