​Morning Cafe Lyon, which I will introduce this time, is a coffee shop with a history that has continued since 1957, when an underground mall opened at Nagoya Station. Of course, Lyon also offers a morning breakfast service, but there are some things that are a little different from other coffee shops.

–Tell us about the history of Morning Cafe Lyon.

Mr. Kawai: "Actually, Lyon is a shop that I inherited from the previous owner. I myself started a coffee shop 48 years ago, when I was 25 years old. First in Kitanagoya City, then in Mizuho Ward. The coffee shop in Mizuho Ward is named “Mocha” and continues to this day.

One day, the former owner from Lyon, who was visiting Mocha as a customer, asked me if I could take over the restaurant. I inherited Lyon when I was about 50 years old, and I am still here today.

Currently, we have settled in this location (Mitsui Building), but we have moved three times due to the redevelopment of Nagoya Station. ”

– What made you start full-time morning breakfast?

Mr. Kawai: "This is a story before I took over Lyon. At first, like other coffee shops, we set the morning breakfast service time to 11:00, but if it goes past 11:00, you won't be able to receive the service. I'm kind of sorry for that... I was confused about how difficult it would be to draw a line for the time to provide the service."

Mr. Kawai:“So they thought, If that's the case, why don't we provide morning breakfast regardless of the time? And decided to start this service. Because I can always make all the customers who come to me happy.

Of course, there were no shops that offered morning breakfast service all day long, so I was worried about what to do if I failed. But I'm glad I took on the challenge. I thought that whether I failed or succeeded, I would regret not doing something for the rest of my life. ”

The shop is located on the first basement floor of the Mitsui Building Main Building, a 10-minute walk from Nagoya Station. It's located in the semi-underground area, so it's easy to find from the ground level, and it's also connected to the Nagoya Station underground shopping area, so it's easy to access.
