Over 6,000 years of ship history

The number one highlight is "The World's Sailing Ships".

From rafts, the most primitive type of ship, to ships from ancient times and the Age of Discovery, modern steamships, and even the modern age, there are models of ships lined up neatly. This is a corner where you can learn about the history of ships around the world, which spans over 6,000 years.

Ships are said to be the first vehicle created by mankind.

Santa Maria

This is the "Santa Maria" used by Columbus to cross the Atlantic Ocean. The ship, which had previously been propelled by human power, was now propelled by wind power. This was the beginning of the Age of Exploration!

Black Ship (Susquehanna)

This is the "Black Ship (Susquehanna)" on which Perry came to Japan in 1853 in search of the opening of the country. A steamship that uses both sails and a steam engine.

Other exhibits include maritime trade goods from the Age of Discovery and an ancient Roman "amphora jar" salvaged from a shipwreck discovered in 1985.

Finally, let's go to the 7th floor of the Nagoya Port Building!

From the observation deck, which is 53 meters above the ground, you can see the wide Nagoya Port to the south and the skyscrapers of Nagoya Station to the north. On sunny days, you can even see the Suzuka Mountains and Mount Ontake. In summer, you can enjoy a romantic night view for a limited time.

We recommend the "3 Facilities Common Ticket" which can be enjoyed together with Nagoya Maritime Museum and Antarctic Observation Ship FUJI.
