Now, I would like to visit places related to Ieyasu Tokugawa Tokugawa!
Okazaki Castle
Okazaki Castle, is the place where Ieyasu Tokugawa was born.
Ieyasu, who was born as the eldest son of Hirotada Matsudaira, the lord of Okazaki Castle, lived in Okazaki Castle until he was six years old, and then took him to the Imagawa family as a hostage. When the Imagawa clan was defeated in the Battle of Okehazama, Ieyasu moved to the Oda side and returned to the castle, where he lived from the ages of 19 to 29 at Okazaki Castle.
The current castle tower was rebuilt in 1959. The whole area is now Okazaki Park, and is also known as a cherry blossom viewing spot.
Ieyasu-related Spot in Okazaki Castle [Well of Toshoko Ubuyu]
It is said that when Ieyasu was born, the well of Toshoko's water was used for the first bath. The well water that is actually being pumped is flowing, and you can actually touch it.
Ieyasu-related Spot in Okazaki Castle [Bench of Success]
A bench with stone statues of Ieyasu and Takechiyo in front of Okazaki Castle. It is a spot where two people can sit next to each other, so you can take a photo together with Okazaki Castle in the background.
Ieyasu spot in Okazaki Castle [Tatsuki Shrine]
"Tatsuki Shrine" at the foot of Okazaki Castle. Legend has it that when Ieyasu was born, a golden dragon appeared above Okazaki Castle and ascended to heaven.
The water from this well spurted out and poured into the Dragon God, offering blessings for success in life, good fortune, easy delivery, and protection from bad luck.
The enshrined deities are Ieyasu and Tadakatsu, the ancestor of the Honda clan who was the last lord of Okazaki Castle.
Ieyasu-related Spot in Okazaki Castle [Mikawa Samurai Hall (Taiga Drama Hall)]
The "Mikawa Samurai Hall Ieyasukan" in Okazaki Castle Park has been renewed, and the "What will you do, Ieyasu? Okazaki Taiga Drama Museum" will be open for a limited period of one year from Saturday, January 21, 2023 to Monday, January 8, 2024.
The world view of the drama is displayed on the first floor, and historical materials based on the life of Ieyasu and the history of the Mikawa samurai are displayed on the basement floor. You can enjoy the story and real history.
Kakukyu Hatcho miso “Hatcho miso Miso no Sato”
Haccho miso is one of the ingredients that Ieyasu is said to have loved. It is a soybean miso that continues to be produced in Okazaki City, and is said to have been ordered and eaten even after Ieyasu moved to Edo.
At Kakukyu Haccho Miso "Haccho Miso no Sato (village of haccho miso)", you can tour the miso storehouse that has been around since the early Edo period for free. There is also a shop where you can buy souvenirs and a food court, so you can only eat here? ! The red miso soft-serve ice cream is exquisite.
Iga Hachiman Shrine
The ancestor of Ieyasu Tokugawa, the 4th head of the Matsudaira clan, Chikatada, built this shrine as a family deity.
The main hall is a joint work of Ieyasu and the third shogun, Iemitsu. Many buildings from the early Edo period are designated as national important cultural properties.
Daijuji Temple
This is the temple where Ieyasu, who was defeated in the Battle of Okehazama, escaped and tried to commit suicide. It is said that the words “Onriedo Gongujodo (If you have faith in it, the world of happiness awaits you in the next life.)” were given by the chief priest at that time.
Life-size monuments of Tokugawa shoguns are enshrined in the Ihaido Hall.
Takisanji Temple Takisan Toshogu Shrine
Takisanji Temple is said to have been built in the late Heian period. The third shogun, Iemitsu, built Toshogu next to it. Along with Nikko Toshogu, it is counted as one of the three major Toshogu shrines in Japan.
Equestrian statue of Ieyasu Tokugawa in front of Higashi-Okazaki Station
If you come by train from Nagoya, please get off at Higashi-Okazaki Station.
It takes about 30 minutes from Nagoya Station on the Meitetsu Nagoya Main Line. When you arrive at the station and exit the east exit, you will see the statue of Ieyasu Tokugawa.
The statue of Ieyasu Tokugawa, one of the largest equestrian statues in Japan, is 9.5 meters high. It seems that the motif is Ieyasu at the age of 25, when he changed his surname from Matsudaira to Tokugawa. The pedestal is also engraved with the words "Onriedo Gongjodo," which Ieyasu used as a flag.
Taishoan Kamaharu Main Branch
If you are hungry, how about going to "Taishoan Kamaharu Main Store" in front of Okazaki Koen-mae Station?
The long-established “Taishoan Kamaharu Main Branch” is famous as the originator of kamaage udon (udon pot served with concentrated broth).
Not only are the kama-age udon noodles in a custom-made tub and miso nikomi udon (udon in miso broth) using local Haccho miso popular, but customers also come from other prefectures for the "morokoshi udon (corn udon)," which has been introduced on TV.
You can't get enough of the corn and the secret soup stock that hasn't changed since the restaurant was founded.
Okazaki is a town full of love for Ieyasu. Why don't you take this opportunity to visit Okazaki?
