6 recommended spots in Tajimi, Gifu

Tajimi City is located in the southeast of Gifu Prefecture. Despite being in a very convenient location, about 35 minutes by train from Nagoya, it is a historic city blessed with rich nature and water sources. Tajimi may have a strong image of Mino-yaki, but it is actually dotted with many stylish places, popular cafes, and historic shrines.

This time, we will introduce recommended spots in Tajimi. Please use this as a reference for your weekend outings!

Tajimi Mosaic Tile Museum

First of all, we would like to introduce "Tajimi Mosaic Tile Museum. Many of you may have heard of the name but have never been there. It takes about one hour by car from Nagoya to the Mosaic Tile Museum. This building was designed and supervised by Terunobu Fujimori, a well-known world-renowned architect.

The 4-story building has a reception, hands-on workshop, and museum shop on the 1st floor, and exhibition rooms from the 2nd to 4th floors.

展示室

One of the most impressive features of the museum are the tiles carefully selected by Terunobu Fujimori in the fourth floor exhibition room. The tiles collected from all over Japan can be seen in everything from tile art to tiles that were actually used in daily life, such as tile paintings of public bathhouses, sinks covered with old-fashioned small tiles, and picture tiles with a pattern on each tile.

The "tile curtain" stands out in the exhibition room on the 4th floor. Proposed as a new way of showing tiles, it is connected with tiles of various sizes. If you look closely at the tiles, there are goldfish-shaped tiles and flower-shaped tiles.

The second and third floors are exhibition rooms and showrooms where you can learn about the history of tiles. In the showroom, you can also get advice on making a house.

On the 1st floor, they hold all-you-can-fill tiles (500 yen) and workshops that can be enjoyed by children. It is a facility where both adults and children can have fun while learning about the history of tiles.

On this day, we had a grape cake and a mixed fruit cake! The moist sponge and lightly sweetened whipped cream are the best! If this place were located in Nagoya, I would definitely continue to frequent it.

Thanks to being in Tajimi, I was saved...
