In this issue, we would like to introduce a very special inn that we would really like to keep secret.
"Yuen Bettei Daita" is located in front of Daita Station in Setagaya, Tokyo. This hot spring ryokan (Japanese inn) is conveniently located just a few minutes from Shinjuku Station and Shibuya Station, yet allows you to feel the peace of mind of coming to a mountain village hot spring resort.
It is full of attractions, such as open-air baths and saunas that can be used for day trips, Japanese cuisine where you can enjoy Japanese seasonal cuisine with all five senses, and teahouses where you can take a break.
This time I actually stayed at Yuen Bettei Daita. I would like to report with plenty of photos.
*Information is current at the time of the interview.
Please check the latest information of each facility and store.

① Spacious room like a hot spring inn in a mountain village
② Saryo where you can enjoy the charm of Japanese tea
③ Large public bath where you can enjoy sauna and open-air bath
Excellent access, about 30 seconds on foot from the station!
One of the charms of Yuen Bettei Daita is its easy access, just a 30-second walk from the east exit ticket gate of Setagaya Daita Station on the Odakyu Line! It's just minutes from Shinjuku Station and Shibuya Station, making it the perfect place to stay when sightseeing in Tokyo.
The "annex" located across from "Yuen Bettei Daita" also has a residential suite for long-term residents and a spa treatment facility "SOJYU spa".
Entrance like a luxury ryokan
When you pass through the noren (shop curtain) at the entrance, you will find an entrance that looks like a luxury inn.
The lobby is filled with the scent of pure incense and decorated with seasonal flowers.
In the common area, fittings and landscape stones inherited from a thatched roof house in Setagaya with a history of over 100 years are used.
It's a spacious space that makes you wonder, "Is this really in Tokyo?!"
Guest rooms where you can feel “Japanese culture”
There are 35 guest rooms in 7 types. A wide variety of rooms with open-air baths, corner rooms, gardens, and more!
This time, I stayed at the "Maisonette Twin Room". Despite its compact size of 27 square meters, it is equipped with both tatami mats and wooden floors, making it a relaxing space packed with the best of a Japanese ryokan.
The living space and bedroom are separated, so you can spend a relaxing time, so it's perfect for long stays!
Tea and bean confectionery grown in house by a Japanese tea connoisseur certified as a tea master were also provided in the guest room. You can enjoy a relaxing tea time in your room.
You can feel the attention to detail in the amenities.
“Saryo Tsukikage” where you can take a break
On the first floor of the museum is Saryo Tsukikage, a tea house by day and a bar by night. Inheriting the history and culture of Daita, where tea plantations once spread and the tea industry flourished, the restaurant mainly deals in Japanese tea.
You can enjoy tea selected by the local "Shimokita Chaen Oyama" and homemade sweets supervised by the head chef.
This time, I tried the Yakushi Jyudan's Hojicha Pudding and Azuki Bean Roll with Vanilla Ice Cream. Both are so exquisite that one can almost sigh.
You can also have a tea-based Tsukikage original cocktail.
One of the charms of Yuen Bettei Daita is that there is a tea room where you can relieve the fatigue of your travels.
Restaurant specializing in chicken dishes
"Gasshin Yuan" is recommended for dinner!
You can also have dinner at Kappo Tsukikage, but this time we went to Gasshin Yuan, a restaurant specializing in chicken dishes, located near Yuen Bettei Daita.
This is a sister restaurant of Shimokitazawa's popular soba restaurant "Dashin Soan," where you can enjoy chicken dishes such as yakitori and duck dishes that are carefully selected from the production area.
The grilled Kyoto duck is especially excellent!
They have a wide variety of oden and a la carte menus, so it's recommended for a light drink after dinner.

A large public bath where you can enjoy Hakone's hot springs
Let's go to the public bath that I was looking forward to!
There is also complementary ice cream in the rest area. This kind of thoughtful attention to detail makes us happy.

In the large bathroom, you can enjoy hot spring water from "Ashinoko Hot Spring "Tsutsuji no Yu," the private source of the Odakyu Yama-no-Hotel in Hakone. The alkaline simple hot spring water, which is good for the skin, slowly soothed my body.
The women's bath has an original aroma mist sauna, and the men's bath has a dry sauna and a water bath carved out of a huge stone.
The large baths can be used on a day trip with food and beverage.
Free ochazuke service
Such a nice service!
There is a free ochazuke (rice with soup) service after dinner. If you ask the front desk, they will bring it to your room, which is a nice point.
The savory ochazuke satisfied my "I'm a little hungry" after taking a hot bath.
Breakfast at Kappo Tsukikage
Have breakfast at Kappo Tsukikage on the 1st floor.
The breakfast menu, which is exclusive to hotel guests, features freshly cooked rice and freshly grilled seasonal fish. Plenty of rice and vegetables. It was so delicious that I ended up ordering another serving of rice.
Check-out is at 11:00, so you can relax after breakfast.
"ONSEN RYOKAN Yuen Shinjuku"
By the way, Shinjuku also has the same chain, "ONSEN RYOKAN Yuen Shinjuku." You can stay more casually at a more reasonable price than Yuen Bettei Daita.
