Starting from Nagoya Station

Nagoya Station

The first day of sightseeing in Nagoya starts from Nagoya Station!

From Tokyo, it takes about 1 hour and 40 minutes by Shinkansen "Nozomi". From Osaka, it takes about 50 minutes by Shinkansen "Nozomi" and about 2 hours by Kintetsu Limited Express. Both of these distances are just right for a 2-day trip.

24-hour ticket for all subway lines

The municipal subway is convenient for sightseeing in Nagoya city. In Nagoya City, there are five subway lines in operation: the Higashiyama Line, the Meijo Line, the Meiko Line, the Tsurumai Line, and the Sakuradori Line.

If you purchase a "Nagoya Subway 24-Hour Tickets (adult ¥760, child ¥380)", you can ride as long as you want for 24 hours! Also, check out the "Donichi Eco Kippu (Weekend Eco Ticket)" which is available only on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.

Nagoya Castle

It took about 10 minutes to reach the main shrine. It is quite impressive when seen up close! By the way, the Kinshachi (golden dolphins) is said to be about 2.6 meters high. This gives you an idea of how big Nagoya Castle is.

Nagoya Castle

Nagoya Castle was built by Ieyasu Tokugawa in 1612 as a preparation against the Toyotomi clan in Osaka Castle. The current castle tower is a concrete structure rebuilt in 1959, but it has been decided to restore the wooden structure from the Edo period. There may be only a few days left to see Nagoya Castle in its present form.

Nagoya Castle Hommaru Palace

Let's also visit "Nagoya Castle Hommaru Palace" which opened in June 2018. After a 10-year restoration plan, the pillars, roof, wall paintings, and detailed decorations were faithfully restored.

Kinshachi replica

The recommended photo spot at Nagoya Castle is the life-size replica of Kinshachi, which is located just outside the main gate. The cameraman took a perfect picture! (Purchase of photos is charged)

I also encountered Hattori Hanzo Ninja Corps at nice timing. Take a picture in Ninja style!

Every day at Nagoya Castle, the "Nagoya Omotenashi Bushotai" and the "Ieyasu Tokugawa and Hanzo Hattori Ninja Corps" set out for battle.

I arrived at "RAYARD Hisaya-odori Park" in about 10 minutes from Nagoya Castle. A park-integrated commercial facility that just opened on September 18, 2020. There are 35 stores such as fashion, gourmet, sports, and bookstores.

There are many outdoor resting spots, such as lawn squares and benches, so it is recommended for a short break.

This time, I decided to go to the sky deck "MIRAI360" where you can enjoy the scenery 90m above the ground.

Well, the first day of sightseeing in Nagoya is also the last spurt. Finally, let's go to eat Nagoya food!

Cheers with Chicken Wings!

Furaibo

Speaking of Nagoya's exquisite snacks, chicken wings! ! So, I came to Furaibo. It seems that chicken wings were born because the first generation of Furaibo could not get chicken and used chicken wings instead.

Furaibo chicken wings

Furaibo chicken wings

Let's have it right away!

Furaibo's chicken wings are characterized by their thick, juicy meat and slightly sweet sauce. The sweet and spicy sauce made from soy sauce and garlic is addictive once you try it. The chicken wings are lighter than they look, so you will find that you can eat as many as you like.

Tebamoto fried chicken wings

This is fried chicken wings. It's more filling and juicy than chicken wings!

Each Furaibo restaurant has its own personality, and the side menu is different. There are nearly 30 stores in Nagoya city alone, so be sure to look for one near your accommodation.
