This time we will be introducing the "Hands-On Science Museum" in Kariya City, Aichi Prefecture. In addition to the popular planetarium, this is an experiential facility where you can play and learn, holding science shows, hands-on science courses that you can't usually get at school, and simple crafts that you can easily participate in.
Admission is free, so it's perfect for going out on rainy or hot days! We would like to introduce you to the charm of the "Hands-On Science Museum" which is full of surprises and discoveries from the microscopic world to the universe.
Make a Reservation when you Arrive!
All courses are reserved on the day due to COVID-19 measures. First, make a reservation at the central reception on the first floor, then purchase a ticket at the ticket vending machine. After that, you go to the designated place by each start time. (For the planetarium, you only need to purchase a ticket for the desired program from the ticket vending machine.)
As for the reservation, there is always a guide staff. Not only the time and place, but they might also give you a happy advice such as "It looks like you can experience this!"

Dynamic Science Show
Unfolding Before your Eyes
The highlight of the science show is the humorous commentary by the show staff, which is fun to learn from small children to adults. They demonstrate scientific phenomena such as air, electricity, and motion in an easy-to-understand manner. Not only can you listen to explanations, but you can actually see and touch them, so you can experience science more closely.
*The science show is currently being held in Lab 1 with a limited number of people as a measure against COVID-19. (As of August 2021)
Let's explore the Wonders of Science in the Lab Experience Course!
Excavate dinosaur fossils, shoot straw rockets with super balls, and make slime in your favorite color... There are various courses that are slightly different from school classes, so you can choose the course you want to do on that day. The schedule and contents change regularly, so be sure to check the website.
Free-to-join Simple Crafts
There are also free crafts that you can easily join with scissors and glue, as well as paid crafts (from 50 yen) depending on the materials. Even small children who can't use scissors or glue will be thrilled just by watching their moms and dads make them!
In addition, on the 2nd floor, there is a section that introduces the great people of "Kariya's manufacturing", a "science exchange gallery", and a "rest corner", and free special exhibitions are held during summer vacation.

A message from the person in charge
The word "Habataki" that remains on the top of the building is a remnant from when it used to be a children's center, and was renovated in 2015 as a "Hands-On Science Museum." From small children to adults, we offer courses and events that change seasonally and keep you fresh and immersed no matter how many times you visit. Please also check out our Instagram.
Right next to it is the Kariya City Traffic Children's Amusement Park. Why don't you go out together on your next weekend?
