An old kiln excavated from the site
At the Aichi Prefectural Ceramic Museum, you can see an old kiln that was actually used.
This is the "Nanzan Kiln No. 9", an old kiln from the Heian period to the Kamakura period (12th to 13th centuries) that was excavated from the site. An open hole kiln (a kiln dug underground like a tunnel) consisting of four units A to D. It is very impressive when you see it up close.
This is "Nanzan No. 8 Kiln". At the end of the Heian period and the beginning of the 12th century, the kiln is thought to have fired about 6,000 pieces at a time.
The old kiln is located in this building next to the parking lot. This is a point that is often overlooked, but we encourage you to visit.
Located a short walk from the old kilns, this exhibit features a restored Muromachi Period (16th century) large kiln used in Seto and Mino, and an Edo Period (19th century) climbing kiln.
