The Hida region, located at the foot of the Northern Alps, is blessed with delicious rice and clear streams, and sake brewing has long flourished in the region. If you have come all the way to the sake region, let's enjoy sake!

That's why we visited "Kashiwaya Liquor Store". A liquor store founded in 1918 that sells Hida's local sake and craft beer.

At the Kashiwaya Sake Shop, you can purchase a sake cup with the Gero Onsen logo for 100 yen. You can also buy your favorite sake and have a cup of sake at the inn you stay! Mr. Kato, the third-generation owner, was kind enough to give us an introduction to sake.

Especially recommended for this chilly season is the "Hida Local Sake 3 Types Drinking Set".

There are 9 footbaths in Gero Onsen. This special set was created with the cooperation of a local liquor store, triggered by the voice of a tourist who said, "I want to drink local sake in a footbath."

Comes with 3 mini bottles (180ml each) of selected local sake made by breweries in the Hida region, and a small cup and a foot towel. Watanabe Sake Brewery's "Horai", Okuhida Sake Brewery's "Okuhida", and Tenryo Sake Brewery's "Tenryo".

Grab your drink-walking set and go to a nearby footbath.

Soaking in the warm footbath and drinking locally brewed sake is a luxurious experience unique to Gero Onsen. It warms you up very much. The sake comes in mini bottles, so it is recommended taking the leftovers as souvenirs.

A historic hot spring inn that has continued since the Edo period

It's getting dark, so it's time to go to the inn. It is about a 5-minute walk from the area where you can eat while strolling and have a footbath.

Today's accommodation is "Gero Onsen Yamagataya". It is a long-established ryokan (inn) with the second oldest history in Gero Onsen, which has continued since the end of the Edo period. The open-air baths and dishes made with local ingredients are popular, and it seems that there are many repeaters who visit every year.

You can enjoy kaiseki cuisine that uses plenty of ingredients carefully selected by the head chef, such as ingredients from Minami Hida and Gero, which are rich in nature, and fresh fish delivered directly from the market every day using a special car.

Open-air bath

The best thing about staying at an onsen ryokan is the hot spring.

At Gero Onsen, the quality is maintained by the "source centralized management system", and it is supplied to each inn in the hot spring town. Therefore, you can enjoy a stable hot spring at any time.

The spring quality is an "alkaline simple hot spring" that is said to be a beauty hot spring. It is colorless, transparent, and has a smooth feel that warms the whole body.
