“Taste of the village Senda”

Sato no Aji Senda

For lunch, return to Gero Onsen and head to Sato no Aji Senda.

This restaurant was established by a chef who worked for over 20 years as the head chef of a long-established inn representing Gero. This is a restaurant where you can enjoy Hida beef dishes such as "Hida Beef Hoba Miso Steak Gozen". In addition, you can enjoy dishes using local ingredients such as dishes using river fish and Hida soba.

Both the table seats and the small raised area are spacious, so you can spend a relaxing time.

Hida beef mabushi rice bowl

The most popular menu item is the Hida beef mabushi rice bowl (¥1,800 + tax). Hida beef with a sweet and spicy sauce based on sugar and soy sauce is generously served on Koshihikari rice from Gifu Prefecture. The sauce is said to be a secret sauce that has been passed down for over 50 years.

A5 rank Hida beef melts in your mouth. The second cup is refreshing with condiments. At the end, pour the dashi stock over it and make it Ochazuke. Both meat and rice are voluminous, but we ate it all smoothly.

If you visit Gero Onsen, this is a must-try dish!

Gero Onsen Onsenji

Let us give you a little history of Onsenji Temple.

Onsen-ji Temple is a temple dedicated to the Yakushi Nyorai of the "Egret Legend" of Gero Onsen. Gero Onsen was well known to many people as a hot spring that cured all illnesses, since the hot water gushed out from near the top of the mountain of Yunomine. However, in 1265, the hot water suddenly stopped.

It is said that when the villagers were in trouble, a white heron, said to be an incarnation of Yakushi Nyorai, swooped down and informed the villagers of a new hot spring. For this reason, you can see many white heron motif designs in Gero Onsen.

And here in Onsenji Temple, the legendary Yakushi Nyorai is enshrined.

The Yuyakushi Nyorai statue in front of the main hall gushes out the sacred hot water of Gero Onsen, telling the miracle of Yakushi Nyorai to the present day. we have come to thank you for completing my trip safely and to pray that I will be able to visit Gero Onsen again.

Gero Onsen

This time, we have delivered a recommended winter trip plan for Gero Onsen.

Although we had only two days and one night, we were able to enjoy the hot springs, gourmet food, and sightseeing in a very reasonable volume, as the area is large enough to walk around. And, after all, warm hot spring water is very soothing in the chilly season.

It takes about 1 hour and 40 minutes from Nagoya to Gero Onsen by express train. It's a recommended spot for a weekend trip, so be sure to check it out.
