[Kita-ku] A New Cultural Spot in Nagoya is Born "SAKUMACHI Shopping Street"

The 600-meter-long elevated railway tracks between Amagasaka Station and Shimizu Station on the Meitetsu Seto Line. It used to be a monthly parking lot and a vacant lot, but under the elevated railway tracks, a variety of cafes, delicatessens, bakeries, Japanese sweets, and candy shops have been opened under the concept of "New town view from under the elevated railway tracks. SAKUMACHI Shopping Street" is a collection of various stores and facilities such as cafes, delicatessens, bakeries, Japanese-style confectioneries, and candy stores, all based on the concept of "a new view of the town from under the elevated railway tracks".

This time, we will take a stroll through the "SAKUMACHI Shopping Street"! We will introduce the shops in the shopping district.

What is "SAKUMACHI Shopping Street"?

SAKUMACHI Shopping Street

Seven stores will open on March 29, 2019 as Phase I area in order to make effective use of the underpass from Meitetsu Seto Line Amagasaka Station to Shimizu Station. In the future, construction will proceed to the second phase, and more shops and facilities will be gathered!

In order to cover the "SAKUMACHI Shopping Street" this time, we interviewed the person in charge.

−Please tell us about the concept of “SAKUMACHI Shopping Street”.

Based on the concept of "viewing a new town from under the elevated tracks", it was born as our first commercial facility that connects stations. We hope to contribute to the revitalization of the area by aiming for a facility that can contribute to creating a greater sense of community and interaction with people who visit this area.

-It's nice that it's a quiet area and the surrounding environment is rich in greenery.

When spring comes, the rows of cherry blossom trees continue. We changed the name from "Hanasaku Machi Shopping Street" to "SUKUMACHI Shopping Street" with the desire to be a bright and bustling shopping street-like exchange base.

- The atmosphere of each store building is also wonderful!

Thank you very much. Eight Design in Nagoya was in charge of planning, design, construction, and planning for this project. The exterior of the building is accented with multiple exterior colors to add color, which we imagined would create a new vitality of the town under the elevated railway tracks.

-Please tell us about the current Phase I area.

Phase I, which is currently open, features a collection of popular local stores, including cafes and delicatessens. We chose "local popular stores" as the highlight of the stores. By opening unique local stores in this area, we hope to create a more local atmosphere with a deeper sense of community.

In addition, Meitetsu Childcare Station Poppo-en, a small-scale childcare business operated by Meitetsu Smile Plus, and after-school TELACO are also being developed as new places for learning. I started it because I want working moms to make effective use of this place.

- What are your plans for the future?

In the future, we would like to open up a variety of shops in order to liven up this place even more. In addition to the shops, I would also like to hold events that can be enjoyed together with the locals.

From "Amagasaka Station" to "SAKUMACHI Shopping Street"

Amagasaka Station

Amagasaka Station is a station on the Meitetsu Seto Line located in Kita Ward, Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture. 3 stations from Sakae on the Meitetsu Seto Line, about 5 minutes. Also, from Ozone on the Meitetsu Seto Line, it's just 3 minutes away from 2 stations! Although it is an area close to the center, it is an area where a quiet residential area spreads out. There is a signboard of "SAKUMACHI Shopping Street" at the ticket gate! Exit the ticket gate and turn right.

When you exit the station, you will find yourself in a quiet residential area, with a park on your left. The cherry blossoms are said to bloom in full bloom in spring, and the rows of cherry blossom trees spread under the elevated tracks.

Ohagi3

Ohagi3

If you go to "SAKUMACHI shopping street" from "Amagasaka station", the first shop you will see is "OHAGI3".

OHAGI3 is a Japanese confectionery shop in Moriyama Ward, Nagoya that sells additive-free ohagi (sweets made with rice and red bean paste) and warabimochi that are modeled after the moon. We named the ohagi, which has been popular for a long time, "OHAGI3" because we want people all over the world to eat it.

Ohagi3

In the chic store, you can buy lattes, coffee, etc. as well as take-out sales of standard ohagi!

Ohagi3

This is the popular ohagi (780 yen for a box of 6). OHAGI “Akatsuki” with grainy red bean paste, “Shingetsu” accented with plenty of coconut, and OHAGI using black sesame “Yoizuki” are moon-themed ohagi. the name is lovely!

Showcase

You can choose from the showcase in the store, and we also have 2 pieces (260 yen) and 4 pieces (520 yen).

Eat-in seat

This is the eat-in seat. What I ordered this time is "Monaka ice cream" which is recommended this summer!

Monaka ice cream

“Monaka ice cream” has an irresistible crispy texture. This is a sandwich made with OHAGI's specialty red bean paste and ice cream. This is "Cream Cheese & Matcha Ice Cream (390 yen)". Matcha ice cream, grainy red bean paste, and cream cheese are a perfect match!

Monaka ice cream

This is "Cream Cheese & Vanilla Ice (390 yen)". Enjoy soybean flour, homemade brown sugar walnuts, vanilla ice cream, red bean paste and cream cheese! Of course, you can eat in, but you can also take away, so you can eat while walking.

OKASHI tabeta

This is the rumored store! The product shelves with yellow and pink triangular roofs are impressive.

OKASHI tabeta

Is there such a loophole in the product shelf? ! but. It seems to be very popular with children, and the atmosphere is like being in a secret base.

OKASHI tabeta

We have more than 200 kinds of sweets in the store, from low-priced sweets to snacks! Considering the perspective of children, the third row from the bottom is a low-priced candy.

Speaking of cafe de Lyon is a parfait! This time, I ordered the seasonal limited "highest grade crown melon parfait (1,998 yen)".

Premium crown melon parfait

A parfait packed with the finest crown melon with a high sugar content. I didn't have time to worry about where to eat it, and I felt like I wanted to eat it right away!

Spoon for parfait

Spoon for parfait. This stylish gradation will make you tight. I'll have it right away!

Melon parfait

It's time to eat. First, from vanilla ice cream and melon sauce. The sweetness of vanilla and the moderate sweetness of melon fills your mouth, making it a truly irresistible dish for melon lovers.

I'll have the crown melon. Surprisingly big! A heavy and heavy melon. Of course the taste is exceptional. It's a luxurious moment.

There are various lunch boxes and side dishes in the store, and it is supported by a wide range of people.

Eat-in space

Eat-in space

There is also an dine-in space, so you can buy lunch boxes, bread, and side dishes and eat them here. It's nice to have a power outlet.

Introducing the recommended bento and bread selected by the manager of "Delica Kitchen".

Rolled Egg Sandwich with Golden Dashi

Recommended 1) Rolled egg sandwich with golden soup stock (430 yen)

A thick egg sandwich. The egg sandwich with the umami of the dashi stock is also recommended when you are hungry.

Natoro mackerel teriyaki bento

Recommendation 2) Large toro mackerel teriyaki bento (630 yen)

A dish of teriyaki finished mackerel that is large enough to protrude from the lunch box. If you eat teriyaki mackerel and rice together, it will have a luxurious taste. It's a hearty lunch box.

Handmade beef curry bread with lots of ingredients

Recommended 3) Handmade beef curry bread with a lot of ingredients (180 yen)

A popular curry bread that is carefully fried one by one in the store every day. The sweetness of the big beef and domestic vegetables goes great with the curry.

Last but not least, this is “Natural Yeast Bread Specialty Store Tsubame Pan & Milk”. A natural yeast loaf bread specialty store with a cafe next door.

The inside of the store is filled with the aroma of bread. There are many freshly baked breads.

You can also enjoy shopping in the shop where there is a vessel. I was particularly interested in this "Tsubame plate" (2,000 yen). Tsubame's illustration is so cute! Also pay attention to the utensils that can only be purchased here.

No matter what you say, the recommendation is bread. This is a loaf of bread (800 yen) made with “Kinuka wheat” from Biei, Hokkaido. This bread is made with 100% Biei wheat, which has a particularly rich flavor among Hokkaido wheat. It is characterized by a moist texture like silk.

This is the loaf of natural yeast “Jukka” bread (1200 yen). Natural yeast bread made by slowly and carefully growing koji mold. It takes about 40 hours to bake, so it is a special loaf of bread that can only be served at most 30 per day.

Taste of Nagoya Thick-sliced Ogura Toast

Taste of Nagoya Thick-sliced Ogura Toast

The most popular item on the eat-in table is the Nagoya no Aji Thick-sliced Ogura Toast (450 yen). It is a dish topped with Ise-made bean paste, which is carefully cooked with only Ise spring water and sugar. The compatibility with butter with a rich taste is also excellent!
