The shuttle loom, which uses the reciprocating motion of a heavy shuttle, had limitations in achieving high speeds. Therefore, shuttle-free looms, such as the rapier loom and water jet loom, which do not use shuttles for filling in the weft, were developed.

An air jet loom with Jacquard is on display near the exit of the Textile Machinery Pavilion. The computer reads digital data from photographs and weaves delicate patterns. Looms have evolved so much in the more than 130 years since Sakichi Toyoda's first invention.

The Textile Machinery Pavilion

At the Textile Machinery Pavilion, visitors were able to learn the entire history and technological development of textile machinery. The precision contrivances and constant search for efficiency developed in textile machinery would have a great impact on Toyota's automobile industry. It was my first time to learn about textile machinery, but I enjoyed learning about it because the staff explained it in a cheerful and humorous way, just like at a theme park!

In part 2, we will introduce the "Automobile Pavilion" where you can learn about the history and technology of Toyota Motor Corporation, and the "Museum Shop" and "Museum Cafe" where you can stop by after your visit.
