The location is a 3-minute walk from Exit 4 of the Takabata subway station. There are stores on both sides of the street here.

A big palm tree is a symbol tree. In this house, they have a wide variety of large and small foliage plants.

On the other side is a raccoon dog figurine. Here, they mainly sell rare plants such as dicchia, but also succulents and cacti.

Signboard dog Dio welcomes you. It's ok to enter the store with your dog.

Established in 1937 "Tsuboi Kenjuen"

Mr. Takanori Tsuboi, the third generation representative

Tsuboi Kenjuen is a long-established gardening store with a history of over 80 years since its establishment in 1937. They started as a wholesaler, but around 1989, they began to focus on retail sales, and now not only traders but also people of all ages visit their shop.

They also have a wealth of experience and knowledge, having been involved in landscaping work for parks and roads in Nagoya City.

Diverse line-up with a network unique to a long-established store

There are more than 1,000 kinds of plants on the 1,000 tsubo (about three hundreds squre meters) or more site.

Not only standard flowers, Phalaenopsis orchids and foliage plants that are indispensable for gift-giving, but  it also takes the initiative to purchase and sell rare plants such as tuberous plants and dicchia. In addition to the fresh flower market, it seems that there are many cases where the flowers are procured directly from the producers. In addition to domestic plants, they also purchase plants from overseas such as Thailand and Africa.

Mr. Tsuboi: “Although the number of customers who are new to plants is increasing, many of them are enthusiasts who are familiar with plants. We have a wide range of products. We have a long-standing network, so our strength is that we can purchase from various sources.”

The tree festival held twice a year at Tsuboi Kenjuen is always a great success. The all-genre plant festival, where various specialty stores such as cacti and succulents are open, can be enjoyed by everyone from beginners to plant enthusiasts, and there are many customers who come from outside the prefecture. The store is decorated with foliage plants and seasonal flowers

Let's take a look at the spacious store while Mr. Tsuboi guides us.

When you enter the house, you will be surprised by the variety of plants. There are many plants that have never been seen from standard ones. Looking at it makes me feel like I'm walking through a botanical garden.

Air plants range from palm-sized to over 50 cm in diameter.

Large foliage plants over 2 meters tall line up. In addition to sales, they also provide leasing services.

This is Phalaenopsis orchid. Gorgeous Phalaenopsis orchids, which are often given at celebrations, are stocked in various sizes and colors to suit the purpose. It seems that Cymbidium will be in stock from November, so this is also great for gifts.

The outdoor area next to it is the flower seedling and potted plant sales floor. Seasonal flowers and garden trees line up.

In September, when I visited for coverage, it is the turning point of the season from summer to autumn.

The colorful cockscomb blooms from summer to autumn. Pansies and violas will start arriving from October, and the color of the sales floor will change with the change of the four seasons.

* The layout of the store changes depending on the season and events.

Displayed by the staff for each season

There is also a dried flower corner. In addition to wreaths and mini bouquets that can be displayed all year round, there are also original products such as hair ornaments and brooches.

Halloween goods are cute too.

They also have a wide variety of bowls, ranging from simple to tasteful bowls. It seems that you can also enjoy coordinating plants and pots.

They will replant the trees, so please ask the staff.

Numerous unique rare plants

Next, I will introduce popular plants and unique rare plants.

Corner of succulents. There are plenty of palm-sized ones, so it seems that many people choose them as a group planting arrangement.

This is "Obesa". The plump round form is cute.

The lineup of cacti is also diverse.

This is "Agave" which is popular as gardening. It is a perennial succulent plant native to Central America.

There are many types, but it seems that the spikier ones are more popular.

The corner of "Bikakushida" (common staghorn fern), which is popular as an interior, was also substantial.

It is popular as a green that can be hung on the wall. It seems that there are many people who buy small seedlings at first and then upgrade them and make them into wooden boards. It is fixed by winding a thread around the moss.

A huge bikakusida hangs from the ceiling of the house. These are displayed for viewing purposes, and after decades have passed, they have grown to this size. The large one was about 1 meter long and extremely powerful. There is also a stand-ins panel of Bikakushida! You can also enjoy taking commemorative photos.
