[Handa city] "MIM Mizkan Museum" where You can Learn about Vinegar while Having Fun
Table of Contents
I went to "Mizkan Museum MIM" in Handa City which was completely renewed in November 2015. This is a hands-on museum where you can enjoy learning about the history of vinegar-making by Mizkan, a company famous for vinegar, and the appeal of food culture.
Handa city is the birthplace of a groundbreaking innovation to create vinegar from sake lees. It also triggered the Edo-maezushi (Edo style sushi) boom. In this report, we will take a look at the "Mizkan Museum," where you can learn about Handa's vinegar production!
It is located along Handa Canal, a 3-minute walk from Handa Station on the JR Taketoyo Line and a 13-minute walk from Chita Handa Station on the Meitetsu Kowa Line. In the past, water for the factory was collected here and the finished vinegar was transported by boat. The mark of Mizkan is everywhere.
1F entrance with reception
The Mizkan Museum offers guided tours accompanied by staff (advance reservations required) every 30 minutes from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. There is a 90-minute tour of the entire museum and a 30-minute tour of the Daichi no Kura. Popular hours and weekends tend to fill up, so be sure to make your reservations early!
This time, I participated in the "whole building course" where you can take a closer look at all 5 zones. The price is 300 yen for adults, 200 yen for middle and high school students, 100 yen for elementary school students, and free for infants. Even if you go with the whole family, you can enter for about 1,000 yen.
After completing the reception, the tour starts when the reservation time comes!
