[Nagoya] Enjoy Dishes from Kochi! "Jikka Cafe Yamada"

Within walking distance from Nagoya station. "Jikka Cafe Yamada (Family home cafe Yamada)" is located a little east of the loop road called Kogane-dori. As the name suggests, it is a cafe that uses Mr. Yamada's house built in 1966.

In this issue, I will report on the charms of the Jikka Cafe Yamada.

Access to the Jikka Cafe Yamada is an 8-minute walk from Kintetsu Nagoya Line "Kogane Station". Parking is available nearby.

A wooden house that can only be thought of as a private house from the outside. It seems that it has been renovated while keeping its original appearance as much as possible.

When you open the sliding door and go inside, you will see "good things from Kochi Prefecture" selected by the owner, Ms. Chikazawa, who is from Kochi Prefecture.

A blackboard is hung on the left side of the entrance. The closed days of the cafe and the day of lunch business were written.

When you enter the store, you will be enveloped in the warmth of your home. Consisting of 1 Western-style room and 3 Japanese-style rooms, it is a one-story building extending north and south.

The courtyard seen from the window is also very nice! The building is U-shaped to surround the courtyard.

Showa retro manual shaved ice machine. Shaved ice is also a popular menu item in summer.

A lot of toys are prepared, too. The floor is tatami mats, so you can enjoy with small children.

A Japanese-style room with a kotatsu like a Showa living room. Too awesome! Chatting while warming up with a kotatsu is the best.

There is also a nostalgic CRT TV and a dining table.

A place where you can express yourself through clothing, food and shelter

Ms. Chikazawa, the owner from Kochi prefecture. In addition to being a second-class architect, she manages this cafe.  She is also a mom of two.

– Why did you decide to open in this location?

Ms. Chikazawa:"Originally, my husband's grandfather lived here. I used to live here when I was a student, so I have a fondness for it. The house has remained as it was ever since the grandfather passed away, but a house that is no longer occupied by people deteriorates very quickly.

So, I wanted to revive his grandfather's house again! With that in mind, in 2016, I opened "Jikka Cafe Yamada". There was a time when I ran a share house, but I also liked the layout of the house, so I decided to turn it into a cafe where many people could come!"

"So 'Yamada' is the last name of the grandfather who was the landlord. I hope that this place will become a place like my 'family home' in Nagoya. ”

Ms. Chikazawa's daughters also helped with the renovation of the store.

Ms. Chikazawa: “When I was thinking about what to do with the restaurant menu, I decided to offer a menu that uses ingredients from my hometown, Kochi. I wanted to give back to Kochi, where I was born and raised, and above all, Kochi Prefecture is a treasure trove of delicious ingredients.

I want you to know such wonderful ingredients! With that in mind, I mainly use ingredients from Kochi. Also, as we introduce the good things of Kochi, the number of customers saying 'I want to go to Kochi' or 'I actually went there' is increasing, which makes me very happy. ”

The cafe is also working on "living with what you have". One example is that the tableware used in the café is made up of retro Showa-era tableware given by neighbors and customers.
