Tokoname (Aichi Prefecture)

Tokoname City is located on the Chita Peninsula in western Aichi Prefecture. It is one of the six ancient kilns of Japan and is a pottery production area with a history of 1,000 years. It is easily accessible from Nagoya in about 30 minutes by train, so it can be used as a spot for a day trip.

It is also recommended to go a little further and stop by the "Rinku Area" where the Central Japan International Airport Centrair is located.

Tokoname has prospered as a pottery production area for a long time, and the "Pottery Trail" still retains the atmosphere of the early Showa period, when it was at its most prosperous.

The retro atmosphere from the Meiji to Showa eras is so popular that it is even used as a filming location for movies. There are shops where you can buy pottery and little-known cafes, so it is recommended for a stroll.

INAX Museum

"INAX Museum" is operated by LIXIL in Tokoname, Aichi Prefecture, the city of pottery. This is a hands-on museum where you can experience the culture of tiles and pottery from around the world.

There are six facilities in the museum, where visitors can not only see and learn about tiles, but also actually touch them and participate in workshops. There is also an Italian restaurant, so this is a spot where the whole family can enjoy the whole day.

"FLIGHT OF DREAMS" where you can learn about aviation while having fun

The facility "FLIGHT OF DREAMS" opened in Centrair in October 2018. The first Boeing 787 is installed in the hall, and you can enjoy projection mapping and hands-on content produced by "teamLab".

Under the wing of the first Boeing 787, you can enjoy the fashionable streets of Seattle, the city where Boeing was founded, and taste Seattle gourmet. It is a spot where you can learn about aviation while having fun throughout the facility.

Minamichita (Aichi Prefecture)

The Chita Peninsula is surrounded by Mikawa Bay and Ise Bay. The Chita Peninsula is a very popular driving course, with an abundance of cafes with a view of the sea and places to taste seafood. The area is also dotted with recreational spots such as hot springs, swimming beaches, and fishing spots, as well as historical cultural assets.

There are also spots for fulfilling love, such as the Koi-no-mizu Shrine, which is said to bring good luck in marriage, and the Nomazaki Lighthouse, which is said to bring you luck in love if you put a padlock on it!

Himaka-jima is a remote island that can be reached in about an hour from Nagoya.

The circumference of the island is about 5.5km. It is a small remote island that can be circumnavigated in about two hours on foot. The octopus and puffer fish are the local specialties, and it is popularly known as the “Octopus  (tako= happiness) Island, Puffer Fish (fugu = fortune)  Island”. With its delicious seafood and the soothing view, you can enjoy island time to your heart's content, forgetting everyday life.
