[Nagoya station] Authentic Donuts to Accompany the Movie! "Midland Cinema Donut Factory"

In October 2021, Midland Cinema Donut Factory opened in Nagoya station. As the name suggests, it is a doughnut specialty store and cafe based on the concept of "movies and doughnuts.

These donuts can be brought into the movie theater, and you can enjoy them inside the stylish store as well as takeout.

We will introduce the reasons for opening and recommended menus.

About 5 minutes walk from Nagoya station. Located on the 1st floor of the Symphony Toyota Building.

Stylish cafe space

When you enter the store, you first see the order counter and showcases lined with doughnuts. In the kitchen at the back of the store, staff members are making doughnuts. The lively atmosphere is very exciting.

There are table seats and sofa seats on both sides of the store, and it is a stylish and calm space.

The sofa seats here are also spacious and have a stylish atmosphere. You can relax before or after watching a movie.

There is a terrace in front of the restaurant, and this seating is also available. It can be enjoyed not only by groups, but also by a single person.

The concept is "movies and donuts"

The Midland Cinema Donut Factory is jointly operated by Shochiku Multiplex Theaters, Inc. and Nakanihon Kogyo Corporation, just like Midland Square Cinema.

Originally, this location was "La Bobine Galette Cafe" run by the same company, but we decided to start anew because we wanted to be closer to movie theaters. They wanted to offer an original product that would be loved by all ages, and as a result, they came up with the flavorful doughnut.

You can buy freshly fried donuts and bring them to the Midland Square Cinema on the 2nd floor!

Authentic donuts with a soft, chewy texture

Chef Toshiki Yagi (left) and staff (right)

Chef Toshiki Yagi, who is the executive chef at THE GATEHOUSE in the Nagoya JR Gate Tower Hotel, supervised the menu of doughnuts that were created with the utmost care.

When developing the menu, the goal was to create a "fluffy, chewy texture" the moment you put it in your mouth. To achieve this texture, they went through a trial-and-error process, including adjusting the combination of wheat ingredients and fermentation.

After repeated trial and error, it was decided to use mainly Japanese wheat "Yumechikara" and a small amount of French "Risdor" and rye flour. The result is a doughnut with a fluffy, chunky texture and a simple, rustic flavor.

Furthermore, by repeatedly adjusting the fermentation time and degree of fermentation, we were able to create a delicious donut that brings out the original umami of the flour.

The amount of dough is a size that is easy to hold in one hand, as this is the kind of food that can only be found in a movie theater. The paper used to wrap the doughnut is also made of a material that does not make noise inside the theater, making it easy to eat.

All 10 kinds of donuts full of originality

A total of 10 types of doughnuts ranging from sweets to prepared foods. Each doughnut is formed by hand, and then deep-fried after a secondary fermentation process, just in time for customers to enter the shop.

Plain dough with green tea or Earl Grey tea leaves kneaded into it, or sweet and sour doughnuts with lemon peel added are also attractive! There are also doughnuts with a Japanese taste with grains of sweet bean paste in the dough. The lineup is sure to be enjoyed by everyone from children to the elderly.

The store manager, Yasuyuki Otomi, selected three recommended donuts.

First of all, I want you to taste "Plain"

Plain 240 yen (tax included)

The first thing I would like you to try is the most popular “plain”, which is also a signboard menu. It's simple, but the taste of the rustic dough and the soft and chewy texture are perfect.

"Almond chocolate" is also in the dough! ?

Almond chocolate 280 yen (tax included)

"Almond chocolate" coated with chocolate and almonds has chocolate mixed into the dough, so you will be surprised when you try it! Another nice point is that they use chocolate that is not too sweet.

Curry donuts with a nostalgic taste

Curry donut 260 yen (tax included)

“Curry donuts”, a side dish that Mr. Otomi personally recommends. The batter is stuffed with a nostalgic curry filling, dipped in bread crumbs and fried. Recommended when you are hungry!

A dine-in menu that will steal your eyes and heart

Strawberry cream 600 yen (tax included)

A popular menu item that can only be enjoyed at eat-in restaurants is the Strawberry Cream. First of all, the dainty appearance of this item will captivate your heart. A plain doughnut is filled with strawberries and fresh cream. The soft-serve ice cream topped with sweet and sour strawberry sauce is a perfect marriage with the doughnut.

Other items on the dine-in menu, which the chef was excited to devise, include a chestnut-filled "Mont-blanc glacé". In the future, they plan to add seasonal fruits to the menu.

A coffee? Or a smoothie?

Not only donuts but also drinks are provided with carefully selected ingredients.

Two types of coffee are available: Original Blend (400 yen) and Single Origin (500 yen). The original blend uses special beans created in collaboration with Little Darling Coffee Roasters in Minami-Aoyama, Tokyo and Ogawa Coffee in Kyoto to match the doughnuts.

Kenyan single-origin coffee is a specialty coffee with a pleasant fruity taste and sweet aftertaste. You can enjoy a different taste from the original blend.

Smoothies 580 yen each (tax included)

Four types of smoothies are available, all of which are easy to drink and healthy for the body. All of them are easy to drink and are body-friendly. They are made with frozen fruits and vegetables, 100% juice, and only the finest ingredients.

This “Green Ginger” has a refreshing taste that mixes ginger, kiwi, Japanese mustard spinach, lemon, and apple. A healthy smoothie that also uses kiwi peel, which is highly nutritious. I also felt the crushing feeling of the pulp.

In addition, the drink menu includes organic Earl Gray, rooibos blend tea, homemade lemonade, and more!

Delicious donuts and excitement

Inside the store, panels displaying scenes from the movie are displayed. After watching a movie, you can immerse yourself in the afterglow.

Mr. Otomi, the manager of the store, said that he would like to continue to value the excitement of the store so that he can collaborate with each movie.

Mr. Otomi: "We were able to open this restaurant with the cooperation of so many people. We would like to deliver products and cinema satisfaction to our customers who will say, 'Delicious!' and we hope to deliver products and cinema satisfaction to them."

Also, it seems that they will increase the number of side dish-type donuts, so the new menu is one of the things I am looking forward to.

It is open from 8:00 in the morning, so you can use it as morning breakfast before the morning screening. You can take it out and enjoy it at home while watching a movie, so it can be used in a variety of situations!
